a good amount; when i did it it was when my hair was already pretty faded and i just needed to get the last bit of color out so i could dye it a different color. if you want to strip color i would suggest doing the olive oil and hairdryer, and then shampooing the oil out with a dandruff shampoo (Pert is best for this) to further strip the color.

how much of semi permanent color will it strip off?
March 22nd, 2010 at 7:10 pm
she said nothing about washing it out. I hope ppl dont do this and leave it in. :-/
And some oils penetrate the hair well and some only coat the hair. She didnt say anything about why she chose to use olive oil and canola oil.
This video should have been more detailed

i do this with just olive oil; put it in your hair and then go over it lightly with a hairdryer, made my hair sooo shiny.
also great for stripping semi-pemanent color.

Hey you should only do this either once a week or every two weeks (your choice). It isn’t safe to do daily because like the lady said your hair will only absorb as much oil it needs and if you do this daily, the oil can clog your follicles.

Daily is way too much. Even once per week can be too much. This DIY treatment is very effective, but do not do it often or you will regret it.
Also don’t use vegetable oil, it stinks. Olive oil, almond oil and stuff is fine to use. And don’t burn your head with the oil, you will regret that too.

mamigen: hair will only absorb what it needs, so if you use it more than needed your hair wont absorb it.
